This educational session will cover updates to the Blockchain phenomenon in the energy sector. Topics covered will include the key applications of blockchain to look for in the coming years, a sampling of projects employing these applications today, and some innovators and consortiums to watch related to Blockchain, DLT, and crypto-currency. The applications of blockchain that will be covered include transactive energy, retail billing, and cybersecurity. Emphasis will be placed on transactive energy, including peer-to-peer energy trading, distribution management, demand response, and wholesale energy trading.

Eric has over 30 years of experience in Energy and Utilities with a strong focus in meter to cash, work and asset management, field mobilization, graphical information systems, outage management systems, distribution automation and grid modernization. Most recently, Eric has focused on integrated distributed energy resources including distributed generation, storage, demand response, energy efficiency and vehicle-to-grid. Some of Eric's current projects include developing strategies for the Internet of Things and smart cities. Eric has specifically focused on developing low power wide area communications networks, smart integration architecture, strategies for IoT roadmaps, end user strategies and programs, managing smart energy integration into broader grid modernization strategies, along with the development of transactive services models and market development facilitating end customer participation in the virtual power exchange. In addition, Eric has provided thought leadership to a number of major electric utilities and municipal organizations on business process and organizational optimization, analytics, visualization and situational awareness for operational intelligence
Eric has provided guidance to leading grid modernization programs across North America and Europe on smart communications, interoperability and analytics strategies and design. He has served as the end-to-end solution architect for some of the leading smart IoT projects underway today.
He has worked closely with clients providing executive leadership to organizations such as PG&E, SCE, Oklahoma Gas & Electric, BC Hydro, National Grid, Florida Power and Light, Areva T & D now Alstom GE, Arizona Public Services, Kansas City Board of Public Utilities, Energy East, Enbridge Gas Distribution and Atlanta Gas Light, Thames Water, Southern Water, ENW, SSE, Origin Energy, Energy Australia, and SP AusNet, to name a few. He has also provided executive leadership for the some of the leading ARRA grant winners in the U.S.
